This fee-free training program, subsidised by the NSW Government will provide you with the foundations needed to work effectively with people with a disability.
The CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability unit has been designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to facilitate the empowerment of people with disability, through the delivery of services driven by a person-centred, rights-based approach.
Students will learn how to:
- Demonstrate commitment to empowerment for people with disability
- Foster human rights
- Facilitate choice and self-determination
In addition, the program will cover:
- Getting the facts straight
- Discrimination and anti-discrimination law
- The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- An overview of the disability service system
- Communicating effectively with service users
- Achieving cultural awareness in your work
- Person-centred practice in action
This is a fabulous professional development opportunity that is available at no cost.
On successful completion, students will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
To be eligible for a Smart and Skilled subsidised training place, at the time of enrolment an individual must:
Be an Australian citizen, a permanent Australian resident, a humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand citizen, and
- Be aged 15 years or older, and
- Live or work in New South Wales, and
- No longer be at school or equivalent
In addition, students must meet the Skilling for Recovery eligibility:
- Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
- At risk of unemployment; or
- 17-24 years old (employed or not)
- In receipt of a Commonwealth Government benefit
To participate in the program, students must be an existing worker who are currently working with at least 2 different people with disability. Students must also meet the Smart and Skilled and Skilling for Recovery eligibility.
Students must have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the disabilities workplace. They will need access to individualised plans and any equipment outlined in the plan. Confirmation of employment in a disabilities workplace will be required prior to enrolment.
Students will need access to a computer or device with internet access for learning / assessment purposes.
Sound language, literacy and numeracy skills are required.
If you have ANY special needs (eg, language / literacy / numeracy difficulties, physical disabilities etc) that you think may impact on your ability to complete this training please let us know prior to enrolling.
Students may choose to further their studies in CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support and may elect to do the ‘disability’ specialisation.
There will be a one day workshop with learning / assessment to be done outside of the scheduled workshop session.
